Roan - Hippotragus equinus

Like sable, roan are dependend on water and are more frequently seen during the winter months when they are concentrated near the permanent water-holes. Once the rains arrive they disperse. Roan may be distinguished by their fawn colouring, black and white facial markings, large ears and high shoulders. They have shorter horns than sable.

Diurnal life. To feed itself it prefers to move in the morning or during the late afternoon. During the hottest hour it prefers to hide on the dense woodland. Its worst enemies are, lions, crodiles and hyaenas.
